Prayers for Texas

I’ve been so worried about my parents in Texas. I really can’t come up with anything else to post about.

They JUST got their power back on. They told me a few minutes ago. So I can finally relax now except that I’m worried that their power will go out again. ๐Ÿ™

They’ve been without power for 53 hours straight during sub-freezing temperatures. And they wouldn’t leave their house for a hotel (I think it’s too late to get a hotel now anyway) because Dad wanted to stay home and tend to his pipes to keep them from bursting.

He’s very proficient mechanically and he was doing some weird things that I don’t understand to keep his pipes clear. Very MacGyver-ish, if you know the reference. He said he had wrapped all his outside pipes, but his pipes inside the house walls were freezing because the water flow had stopped in a couple of areas, so he boiled water on the gas stove and then poured the heated water through his pipes to clear them out and got them running again. But he had to maintain that effort consistently because the temperatures weren’t rising above freezing without any electricity in the house.

He said his neighbors were experiencing bursting pipes and he was obsessed with preventing the same happening to his. And he succeeded.

I just feel so terrible this is happening to so many people! The news is saying this is affecting millions! ๐Ÿ™

I’ve been so worried about my mom too because she’s not 100% healthwise. I felt like she should’ve been at a hotel at least, but she didn’t want to leave Dad.

My parents are probably luckier than most in Texas too. My Dad has climbed Mount Everest. He didn’t go to the summit. He got to the final base camp and didn’t go further than that, but I still think it’s cool. And he still had all his Mount Everest gear including his sleeping bag from that trip, and he said that he actually felt WARM in his frozen house when he was all bundled up in his gear.

And my mom has pretty good snow-skiing gear from our few trips to Canada in the past. We were there when temperatures were -35 degrees Fahrenheit and she still had all her stuff from then too.

I feel so bad for others in Texas though, that don’t have any cold-weather protection to help them.

I just feel bad in general over this whole situation. It’s making me sick.

What would I do in this scenario? I would crack. I know I would. This is one of my worst nightmares in the world, to be freezing with no relief. ๐Ÿ™

There’s one Texas guy on Twitter that had a pic go viral. I’ve seen it dozens of times today. His twitter is @ThomasBlackGG and his viral pic is here:

I’ve been praying for relief for all these millions of people. This is such suffering.

I hope you all are warm and safe!

  1. 4 days down! Weโ€™re finally supposed to get above freezing tomorrow! 33 degrees! We lost our pool heater and both pool pumps but no internal damage so far. The powerโ€™s on 1/3 of the time, and thatโ€™s been enough to keep it warm enough in here. The pipes froze and water stopped running. And streets donโ€™t get plowed or salted down here so no one can leave. But it should all start normalizing tomorrow!!!

    1. Thank you… natural temperatures are finally starting to rise there so the worst might be over. But now everyone will be dealing with all the water damage left behind. Yikes!

  2. I feel your fears. My cousins are down there experiencing rolling black outs with a brand new baby. Luckily they have some Colorado cold weather gear, but itโ€™s still scary.

  3. Is that an image from home? Yes Dadโ€™s sounds cool and strong and very proactive.

I used hear in my school days here in Delhi about Never was there an electricity cut in the US but guess things are coming back to reality for the great American dream standards. ๐Ÿ™‚ hope parents, you are well. Thanks for sharing.

    1. No, that’s not an image from my parents house. I think they were lucky compared to many other people in the area. I first saw that picture on the national news, and I looked up the original source online and it’s someone I don’t know on Twitter. But there are alot of crazy pictures like that getting posted this week, unfortunately. ๐Ÿ™

    1. Thank you so much for your prayers. They seem to be ok now. After their 53 hours without power, they said it only went out once more but for 1 hour. So they are all good now. It’s warming up naturally in their area too.
