Get To Know Me – Festive Edition

The Thank You!

Thank you so much to Smelly Socks at Smelly Socks and Garden Peas for tagging me! I love “Get to Know Me” stuff like this because you can actually learn alot about a person from their answers to seemingly random questions. Especially these holiday-related questions. Thanks again, Smelly Socks! I loved reading your post and getting to know you better! 🙂

The Questions and Answers
1) What is your favorite winter treat?

Hm, I actually eat these all-year round so they’re not completely just a “winter treat” for me. But since they fit-in quite well with the winter theme, I feel like I can say that Sno-Caps candy is my favorite winter treat…

2) What Christmas traditions do you celebrate?
Well… we’re still doing the Santa Clause tradition at my house (although this may be our last year for that). To keep it easier for me… we’ve never wrapped Santa’s gifts (to make them stand-out better from all the other gifts). And we also go ahead and open/assemble any of Santa’s gifts that require assembly so they are ready-to-go first thing Christmas morning. But isn’t that a big debate – whether to wrap or not Santa’s gifts? How do you all do it?

3. Are you wishing for snow this year?
Nope. I don’t like dealing with snow at all in my daily life. Especially here in Tennessee or Texas where the snow (IF it happens at all) is just wimpy and gross. But if I’m travelling specifically for some snow-skiing, then I love snow immensely. So just when it’s vacay or an escape, as long as it’s not part of my normal life.

4. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Oh this one is easy – “Home Alone”. My daughter and I just watched it together this afternoon. She loves it too! My next favorite Christmas movie is “Mean Girls”. C’mon!!!! If “Die Hard” is considered a Christmas movie then dammit “Mean Girls” is a Christmas movie too! They even do a dance number in Santa outfits to “Jingle Bell Rock” so it totally counts. I will die on this hill.

5. Have you ever built a gingerbread house? What is your technique?
I’ve actually never built a gingerbread house. I think I could figure it out though. It wouldn’t look that great however. But my daughter gets to do a gingerbread house every year because she has a friend that invites her over annually and they do them together. I’m in the clear!

6. What is your favorite hot chocolate?
I didn’t realize there are multiple types of hot chocolate? I like the normal one… you know, warm milk + cocoa + marshmellows. Pretty simple. But delicious! 🙂

7. What gift are you hoping to get this year?
Haha, nothing too exciting! But I did ask my husband to buy me some new pots and pans for Christmas. The current ones we have are getting old and crusty so I’m ready to replace them. If I get them for Christmas then I won’t have to go buy them myself. So it saves me money if he gets them instead.

8. What is your warmest wintertime memory?
Hmmm this is a tough one. Since I moved away from my parents, I really enjoy the time after Christmas every year where we get together and hang out – either at my parent’s house or we meet at a travel destination instead. I just enjoy spending time with my parents; and now that I’m an adult too – I kinda think they’re cool. And I love seeing my daughter develop a relationship with them too. It’s cute when they Facetime together. Sometimes my parents don’t know the Facetime is on so they hold the phone up to their ears and we’re seeing inner-ear close-ups the entire conversation. They make my daughter laugh non-stop. I see them getting older and that has made me realize that any time I get to spend with them now is so precious. I worry about this time being limited. 🙁

And The Tagging…
Anyhow, I totally stink at tagging! I love all of you, but sometimes I don’t want to pester, and also sometimes I don’t think a post like this will fit-in with your blog theme. I definitely over-think stuff like this and I don’t mean to exclude anyone! So PLEASE feel free to tag yourself if you’d like to participate! I’d love it.

But just in case some of you would like a little peer-pressure too… I’d like to tag the following folks:

BosssyBabe!
The World’s Common Tater
Adventures with the Michigan Mama
Joyful Change with Yvonne
Bill – A Silly Place
Saymber – To Be

Happy Holidays everyone! 🙂

  1. I love these posts too for the same reason of getting to know people 😀 Snow caps are a favorite treat of mine too! And the story of your parents face timing with the phone up to their ears made me bust out laughing!

  2. 1) What is your favorite winter treat?
I don’t really think of treats as having seasons. We’ll go with cookies, or maybe chocolate.

    2) What Christmas traditions do you celebrate?
I visit my family. We open presents from immediate family the night before. In the morning we go to church, usually the one day a year I still attend Catholic mass since I’m with the Catholic side of the family. Then Aunt Jane and her family come over, and we exchange presents with them. (I told the story of why we open presents the night before in a guest post I recently wrote for someone else’s blog, but it hasn’t been published yet. And I told my story of amicably leaving Catholicism here:

    3. Are you wishing for snow this year?
No. Snow here is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I have enough to deal with without having to learn to live with snow.

    4. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. BTW, I had never considered Mean Girls a Christmas movie, but I think you’re right. 🙂

    5. Have you ever built a gingerbread house? What is your technique?
I’ve assembled them from kits before. The bread always tastes stale.

    6. What is your favorite hot chocolate?
    I didn’t know there were different kinds…

    7. What gift are you hoping to get this year?
    I have a few things…

    8. What is your warmest wintertime memory?
Literally, having a fire in the fireplace at my parents’ house. Figuratively, I’m not sure, my life isn’t exactly full of warmth; probably just all the really special gifts I’ve gotten over the years.

    1. Great answers Greg, thank you for playing! I’m glad you agree with me about Mean Girls. 🙂

Ah, I remember Christmas mass with my parents… When I was a kid, we went to the midnight mass. I remember those being really rough because I was so tired. I haven’t been to Christmas mass with my parents in FOREVER since we don’t see them until New Years anymore. I kinda miss that now… 🙁

  3. Snow caps are one of the best candies ever invented. I say second only to junior mints. And that would lead to my favorite hot chocolate being the peppermint one. Add a shot of espresso and we’re totally in business! Haha! Great post. It is fun getting to know you.

  4. Hehe thanks for the tag!

    1. Shortbread cookies!!!! 😍😍
    2. My family and I love to go on walks after a huge snowfall.. Tobogganing and building a snowman 🙂 love all the get together at the holidays!
    3. Yes and no. If I don’t need to be on the road I don’t mind it lol…
    4. Home Alone of course! Always provides the feels!
    5. Nope, never built one on my own but contributed to one…. Veryyy small contribution lol
    6. Any hot chocolate lol
    7. I usually give my family a list.. And it’s usually a small list of things I can’t bring myself to buy for myself but happy to receive it from others lol.. But this year we decided to only do gifts for kids 🙂
    8. Being together with my family and extended family on Christmas day….we eat together, play together, laugh together, watch movies and nap together 😂❤️😍🙏😜☺️

    1. Great answers Bosssybabe! I would LOVE to do Christmas like your family this year – gifts for kids only! Will make everything soooo much easier! As well as cost-effective! You have to let me know how it works out! I’m already jealous about it. 🙂

  5. Congratulations on your tag, Pepper! And those snow caps look yummy! 😋😋😋 My favorite treat this time of year is bon-bons! I could eat those until they’re coming out my ears! But I’m definitely going to try the snow caps because I’ve never had them believe it or not (I know, I know. You probably think I’ve been living in a cave- LOLOL). 😂 And Home Alone is also my fave movie too! And can you have two favorites? I also love National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation! 😁

Have a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year, sweetie! 🎄🥂🍾🎉🥳
