$1000 Declutter Challenge for 2022

So I totally missed January, but even though I’m a month behind – I’m still all about this $1000 declutter challenge for 2022. This purpose of this challenge is to acquire at least $1000 by the end of the year, with only items you’ve decluttered from your home.

I think I can do this in 11 months. I mean, I have alot of junk stuff that is still in great condition that I will no longer use myself, BUT, I need some sort of inspiration to rid myself of it. Without the inspiration, I can’t bring myself to do it. So this challenge is my inspiration.

Unless I find some better channels, I’ll probably sell most of my stuff via Facebook Marketplace and Poshmark, and maybe a bit on Ebay too. I’m going to put all the $$ acquired from this challenge towards my site hosting costs. Maybe pre-pay for some extra years too so I get a discount, because site hosting is expensive! Geeeeeez.

Do any of you want to do this $1000 declutter challenge with me? You know, make it a bit of a race for the extra motivation?

And completely unrelated to this challenge… I want to get rid of this stupid treadmill in my home. I can’t count it towards this challenge because it technically doesn’t belong to me. It’s my husband’s. I need to persuade him to get rid of it for several reasons:

  1. It doesn’t work.
  2. Nobody has used it in 5 years.
  3. When someone WAS using it, it was me. And I am swearing on the Bible right now that I won’t use it again even if it did work.
  4. It takes up alot of space.
  5. I want that space freed-up.
  6. Nobody will bother to call anyone to come over and actually FIX it.
  7. I hate it being there.

You all get the point, right? How can I make him get rid of it?! He swears that he’ll get it fixed and start using it himself which is why he won’t get rid of it, but he’s been saying that for 5 years and I no longer believe him.

You’ll see that we just keep junk stuff on it at this point anyway.

So my 2nd challenge for 2022 it getting rid of this stupid treadmill. Wish me luck!!!

  1. Ha we have had a treadmill for over 3 years. I hated using it when I started c25k and then got fed up and ran outdoors. Then finally last autumn himself did c25k and is still using it three times a week now. I thought it was a waste of money and space, but he’s lost 15kg and is fitter than I’ve ever known him.

  2. This is such a good idea! The fastest way to make the $1000 is to sell electronics and video games. Electronics are hot on the market. The most I made from a sale was $450 for a 2012 MacBook, which I thought had died at one point. Good luck! 🙂

  3. Here is the solution to your treadmill situation. Put a note on it. “This item must be in good working order by _______ date. If not, it will be removed from the house”. Setting a clear deadline like that usually stimulates some action and if it doesn’t you get your wish – hassle-free.
